A picture says 1000 words. In this age of hustle and bustle, we tend to forget that our city has amazing visuals that tell our story. We may pass by an intersection, a road, a building, a person, a shop many times without appreciating its beauty. Every week we want to give you a unique perspective from a local Toronto photographer through their eyes.
What they capture may tell an untold story.
Lanvin Menswear Launch at Harry Rosen
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the launch of Lanvin’s menswear collection at Harry Rosen’s flagship store on Bloor st. Jeanne Lanvin was born in 1867 and set up her first boutique in Paris back in 1889. Since then the fashion house has expanded to all corners of the globe and has become one of the most prestigious brand in fashion today. As such, when I heard that Lanvin was launching at Harry Rosen I was quite frankly delighted beyond belief. It is great to see institutions like Harry Rosen raising the bar for mens fashion in this city by bring in major labels like Lanvin and using their platform to educate the men in the various fashion trends out there. Speaking of education what was uniquely impressive about this launch was The Evolution of Suiting by Lanvin installation that showcased 12 different styles of men suiting, from classic tuxedo jackets to blazers made of paper. The display was not only beautiful but truly highlighted the precision and skill that goes into mens fashion. Here’s your exclusive sneak peek into this wonderful celebration of mens fashion.

The “Weekend Special” series is one that looks at various parties that happen in this city on any given weekend. What we have tried to do is showcase a variety of different parties to carter to the diverse crowd that resides in this city. Here are some of our suggestions for this upcoming weekend starting October 14 – 16.
FRIDAY
An event that caters to those who leave their inhibitions at the door and just want to enjoy an in-depth night of music from different ends of the spectrum with HIP HOP vs HOUSE. These genres are brought to life by some of Toronto’s finest DJs from both Hip-Hop and House musical strengths. Expect a mature crowd with a relaxed dress code.
If you are looking for an event that focuses on great music, polished fashion and crowd diversity that one would expect from the most culturally diverse city in the world, HEART OF THE CITY provides all of the above. Expect to hear a wide array of music hear, with a mixture of Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae and Mash-Up. The crowd ranges from 21-30 with an upscale casual dress-code.
SATURDAY
Enjoy a night of dinner and dancing away from the club district, nestled in the heart of trendy Liberty Village. Top-40 is the music of choice here with a crowd of young professionals who know how to party. Dinner and/or bottle service reservations are highly recommended.
THE MAIN INGREDIENT reveals the diversity of the music today: soulful hip hop, house, Motown, classic 60/70’s, Detroit street soul, New Jack Swing, Nu-Jazz, UK vibes sometimes a lil Afrobeat, and more. Expect an eclectic crowd from all walks of life here, pretentiousness is about the only thing you won’t find.
Welcome to another edition of the Style Guide! This series aims to highlight various fashion boutiques in the city of Toronto in an effort to educate men in the ways of fashion beyond the confines of a mall. There are some amazing stores in this city that carry some equally amazing fashions such as this issues feature, Gotstyle located at 62 Bathurst St, Toronto.
Founded in 2005, Gotstyle Menswear has quickly become Toronto’s leading men’s lifestyle boutique specializing in high-end men’s fashion. They offer over 45 different international and local brands and can take you from casual to dressy in a matter of minutes. The brilliance of this boutique lies in its ability to truly understand its clientele. We as men typically love nothing more than to be able to do all our shopping in one place. As such, at Gotstyle you can buy your clothes, get them tailored on site and while you wait squeeze in that hair cut. That’s right, Gotstyle has a fully functioning barber shop on site at their boutique. But that’s not all, for those men of great taste they also offer a full made-to-measure service on site (by appointment). Short of a flat screen tv and beer what more could you ask for? Make sure you check out this amazing boutique for all your GQ needs.

ABOUT TOPMAN
Topman has earned its sartorial stripes with an unswerving, energetic approach to producing truly exciting high-street men’s fashion. Driving trends forward while shifting the way men approach shopping, the Brand’s attitude to creating brilliant, affordable and authoritative menswear is second to none.
Born in 1978, Topman is the male equivalent of successful stable-mate; Topshop. With over 210 stores in its native Britain, almost every high street in the country boasts its very own slice of Topman. London’s mega Oxford Circus flagship – one of several chief stores in the major cities throughout the UK – sees over 75,000 pairs of feet storm its two floors every week. The rest of the globe is catching up too. Here’s the math: there are Topman stores in over 70 cities worldwide, stretching across 20 countries while boutiques in America, China, Germany, Belgium and Japan stock the Brand.
As one might suspect, its fashion forwardness continues into cyberspace with transactional website topman.com seeing over 450,000 unique visits per week and current shipping to over 100 countries across the globe.
On October 2nd, 2011, the city of Toronto came alive to celebrate one its biggest events, Nuit Blanche. But then again, most of you probably already knew this. In the midst of all the excitement, creativity and celebration there was one installation that particularly caught my eye because quite literally it brought a piece of Vancouver to Toronto. On October 2nd, 2011 F As In Frank a vintage company out of Vancouver opened its first boutique here in Toronto at 418 Queen St. W. In a time where the words “thrift” and “vintage” are so commonly interchanged it was refreshing to see a store that not only understood its market but dared to raise the bar.
Born and raised in Ontario, Jesse and Drew Heifetz grew up in an environment heavily inspired by vintage clothing. Their father, David Heifetz, was a strong influence, having been involved in the vintage clothing business himself since 1969…With memories of jumping off rafters into giant piles of vintage Levi’s as children, the two have been surrounded by vintage clothing their whole lives. They have developed their family orientated business right from the heart.
Their experience with the world of vintage clothing is evident from the moment you walk in, from ole-school snap backs, throw-back wind breakers, to my favourite, their phenomenal collection of vintage glasses (Christian Dior, Cazal…) there’s no denying that these guys are back in a big way. And the icing on the cake is that they also offer online shopping!
