OCTOBER 25th, 2010
October 25th, marks the day that we Torontonians head to the poll to make our voices heard. To ensure that the next leader of this city is a candidate that we can be proud off. As idealistic as this sounds the reality of the situation is quite the opposite. Voter apathy is nothing new, as anywhere from 36 to 47 per cent of those who have the legal right to elect a provincial rep choose not to show up to the party.
In the 2006 Toronto election voter turn out was a lousy 39.3 percent across the city.
A guerilla facebook group has developed a series of visuals to be used and distributed by anyone who shares this view that inspiring people to get informed and participate in democracy is all-important. Use all or any of it as you see fit. Be creative as it was designed to help anyone who wants to inspire more people to be involved.
The 2010 Toronto mayoral election marks a pivotal point in our city. In the next four years we will make key decisions on such issues as the waterfront project, the future of the TTC, the PanAm games, taxation, and the Ontario Place revitalization.
With so much riding on the outcome, it is now more important than ever that Torontonians get involved so that the winning candidate is a true reflection of the views and ideals of the majority, rather than the minority of the population who customarily show up to vote.
Our hope is that it will act as a tool to motivate all Torontonians to get informed, develop an opinion, and vote on October 25.
Get informed and get out to vote on Oct. 25th!
